Another adventure comes to an end. A week aboard a 41-foot ketch in the Florida Keys. Tough to go back to real life, but always looking forward to getting home.

Discovering Iceland
We just returned from a whirlwind exploration of southern Iceland. More to come on this beautiful country!
Westward Bound
Keeping up the sailing theme - the "Dove" was the smaller of two ships carrying those who founded the colony of Maryland in 1634. It took an act of courage to venture across the Atlantic.
Liquid Gems
Taking a quick pause to wait for buddies while kayaking Accokeek Creek in Virginia, I noticed how dramatically the water beaded up on these giant lily pads. Like little gemstones, floating on a reflected sky.
Mauna Kea
Still catching up, sharing a shot from 9300' up Mauna Kea on the Big Island, Hawai'i. This is just above the visitor's center, and above most of the clouds... unfortunately high clouds rolled in right at sunset and ruined our stargzing, but the mountain views made up for it! I will get around to some…Read more Mauna Kea
Island Life
When in paradise, it's only natural to slow down a bit. My son paused here to contemplate the island life in Waimea, Hawai'i.
Great Falls of the Potomac
The Great Falls of the Potomac, viewed from the Virginia side. With all the rain we've had lately, the river was raging!
Morning in the Valley
The best views are those where you can see for miles, and it's ALL nature! Looking west from Mill Mountain, off the Tuscarora Trail in West Virginia.
Prince William Forest
A nice lunch spot along Quantico Creek, Prince William Forest Park, Virginia.
Layers of History
The stripes on these cliffs show different layers of sediment laid down at the bottom of an ancient sea, between 3.5 and 5 million years ago. As the cliffs erode, fossils from that era are released and wash up on the beach.
My Favorite Place
One of my favorite places in the world is the one I carry with me. My tent, and the rest of my backpacking setup, allow me to escape to almost anywhere. This particular spot was a great one - 20 miles from the nearest pavement, high in the Colorado Rockies, easily one of the quietest…Read more My Favorite Place
Good Morning Campers!
Lucky enough to spend the weekend with a great group of youth at an otherwise inaccessible part of Calvert Cliffs SP along the Chesapeake. A bit chilly, but a beautiful weekend in a beautiful place!
Battling Mother Nature
Mid-Atlantic ski resorts have had a challenging winter. Started cold, but for the last few weeks we've seen late spring 60's and rain. Then shortly after I took this, snow, sleet and fog. At least the trails are obvious!
So Close And Yet So Far
A morning from twenty- something thousand feet over the Sierra Nevada. The John Muir Trail is down there somewhere, and high on my life list of long walks!
Visit the Chesapeake
On any given day I have mixed feelings about where I live - but the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries are a beautiful part of the world. Getting out to, or on, the water can cure the soul. This was posted in response to the Daily Post's Weekly Photo Challenge - "Tour Guide". See other…Read more Visit the Chesapeake
