Two- hundred feet under the surface, this 45′ calcite column serves as a center point for the expansive galleries and chambers that make up Luray Caverns. Named for its color, and the Roman God of the underworld, it is called “Pluto’s Ghost”.

Beautiful, and appropriately named. –Curt

We were up in the Shenandoah Valley a few months ago and took a tour through the Luray Caverns and saw “Pluto’s Ghost”. It is easily one of the most impressive caverns we’ve visited. Brings back memories.

There are several nice caverns up and down the valley, but Luray is unique for its wide open galleries and very large formations.

It has been many a year since I visited Luray Caverns. I shall have to make a point to go back this spring. Thanks
