Keeping with the bird theme, this guy was hanging out at Battle Creek Cypress Swamp. Always fun to find cardinals, they’re such a nice splash of color in the winter. I also recently learned that when paired, the male and female will usually not get more than 30 feet apart unless she’s on a nest, and will call to each other every few seconds to make sure the other is still within earshot. Many split up over the winter, but any other time, if you see him, she’s probably nearby.
