Two pictures today, because that’s what it takes to tell this story – Morton Preserve, on southern Long Island, has birds so conditioned to humans that they will leave the trees to perch on your hand for some seed.  That’s what this Downy Woodpecker was doing to my son, who was six at the time.  Even from behind you can see the grin!
