What, Food? Where?

One of the blog “themes” I want to highlight on a regular basis is connecting kids with nature – so this week I’ve been getting some help from mine, building some homemade bird feeders out of trash!  That’s some good recycling!  Hoping to both post a discussion of how we did it, as well as a low-budget video on our experience giving it a try, sometime early next week.  It’s turning into a bit of an experiment on what style of feeder (shape, size, seed access) is most appealing – and proving to be an education as we learn things, such as Dark-Eyed Juncos (junco hyemalis), like this one, prefer feeding off the ground (millet, in fact) and don’t really care about the feeder much at all.

Turning out to be fun!
