There’s not even enough left in these logs to attract the fungus and mushrooms that are prevalent this time of year.  Autumn’s most noticeable change, falling leaves, often overshadows the effect of those first winter frosts and windy storms that affect the old and weak.  These trees feed the forest, enriching the soil for the next generation.  Here, I liked the dead trees, but also the tiny holly sprout, and the bright sun promising hope.
