Aldebaran Sunset

The orange giant star Aldebaran, 65 light years from Earth in the constellation Taurus, is about to be occulted by the first-quarter moon in this picture taken just before midnight on March 4, 2017.  When viewed through a telescope, you could actually see the Moon moving against the starry background, until Aldebaran winked out behind the Moon’s dark limb, and vanished.
