January 13, 2025 – The Wolf Moon (January’s full moon) is set to occult Mars tonight. That is to say it will pass between Earth and Mars and block Mars from view. A very lopsided eclipse.

It’s challenging to get a good photo of the pair with a DSLR camera – the Moon is so bright that Mars is hard to resolve – but here’s my attempt. Mars is the small but obviously rust-colored object just below and to the left of the Moon. It will disappear behind the lunar disk in another 3-ish hours after this picture was taken.
